Mustang Stampede Barrel Donations Desired- A Letter from Principal Kostelnik and Assistant Principal O'Connor
Howdy 5th Grade Families!
The annual PTA sponsored Mustang Stampede will take place on Sunday, October 14th from 12-3pm. We are all looking forward to this community building, family fun event!
This year’s classroom contribution will be a themed grade level “rodeo barrel” that will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. All proceeds go to the Edna Maguire PTA to fund school programs!
We are asking grade level families to donate theme related items to their grade level’s barrel. For instance, if the grade level’s theme is Movie Night, the barrel could contain fun items such as caramel popcorn, movie tickets/ice cream vouchers, free eye exam coupons from your local optometrist, etc.
Grade level themes and Sign Up Genius links are listed below. Barrels will be assembled at school and auctioned off at the Mustang Stampede!

An Update from Our Class Secretary, Reese!
Many thanks to Reese for chronicling the days of the Frazier Squad! Read her detailed recap of the last couple of weeks in class!.
Week of September 10th
This week in room 32 we did some super fantastic things. We learned about growth mindset, root words, math, and a mystery balloon science lesson. The mystery balloon science lesson was the The Frazier Squad’s favorite part of the week. We loved experimenting with the balloons. The Frazier Squad learned about Growth Mindset as well. For homework we picked a piece of paper from a cup that had a person that had or has a growth mindset written on it, and whoever you picked you got to write a paragraph on them. Also this week room 32 studied root words. One way that we practiced our root words for our test last Friday was to toss around a ball and say the words on the list. Another way to learn them was by reading the list every night before bed. Another day this week we did math. Room 32 learned how to draw 3 dimensional shapes and how to write the layers, base, total, and volume total on that 3D shape. Friday, the Frazier Squad did a Mystery Balloon Science experiment. There were three balloons. The first one was filled with ice, the second one was filled with air, and the third was filled with water. In room 32’s science journals we wrote down what we noticed about the mystery balloons. We saw different outcomes depending on how we popped the balloons. We also noticed that different materials affect the balloon and on how the balloon popped compared to the other balloons. Those were some of the highlights of the Frazier Squad’s week!
Week of September 17th
This week in room 32 we did some extraordinary things. Some of the learning activities we did were Physical Science with Ms. Frazier, number corner, Brad’s Baseballs graph, grammar packet, learning about our growth mindset person, music, and art and garden. This week with Ms. Frazier in Physical Science we talked more about the mystery balloons that we did the week of September 10. We also talked about matter, and what matter is made of. The Frazier Squad also did number corner. Number corner is a calendar with math problems on the cards that say the date. Each table group gets a card with a math problem on it. The equation on the card goes in a pattern, clocks and then coins for all of September. When you solve your clock or coin equation you then can share it with the class. Our classroom also made graphs on how Brad can fit 24 Baseballs into boxes. His company is called Brad’s Baseballs. Room 32 worked with their table partners to create a graph for how to fit all of his baseballs into the boxes and ship them to him. Brad needed those baseballs to keep his company of selling baseballs going. Room 32 had a jam packed week so far but there's still more to come. Room 32 also learned about grammar. We learned that there are things called fragments. Fragments are a part of a sentence but not a complete sentence. We also learned about run on sentences. Run on sentences are sentences that go on to long and don’t have a period. Another thing we learned in grammar was subjects and predicates of the sentence. A subject of the sentence is what or whom it is about. A predicate is the part that tells you about the subject. The Frazier Squad is working on a growth mindset project. Each student in the class chooses a piece of paper from a cup and you get to write about them and why they had or have a growth mindset. You also get to write a five paragraph essay on that person’s background, how they had a growth mindset, and their legacy. Another learning activity we did in room 32 is hgo to music. In music we all got to play the drums, it was a lot of fun. There were three drums you could play, the baby bear, the mama bear, and the papa bear or you could play the shakers. We all got to learn a rhythm from Africa and play it together as a group. The rhythm was super easy to remember, but it didn’t look as hard as it was. The Frazier Squad also went to art and garden this week. We were divided in half to go these activities. This week in garden we got to walk around the garden and observe what is the same and what is different about the garden. Then we got to try some of a cut up pear. We also got to eat some cut up apple. In art we got to paint paths that disappear into a mountain or a forest. That was what room 32 got to do during art and garden. That was what The Frazier Squad got to do this week!
